Interview with Kevin Burkhardt
During the pregame, the announcers on SNY
were further hyping Santanamania as they explained that the whole team stopped what they
were doing just to see the man warm up. Amazing.
When it came to crunch time though, he gave up a three run homer to the 38 year old Juan Gonzalez. Yes people, you hear right, Juan Gone is with the Cardinals to see if he can fill that void. After listening to Matt Yallof of SNY saying that he is hit a pair of doubles and a pair of homers against him, i can see why he seemed hittable (video). On the other hand, he did strike out a batter in his first appearance in exhibition play. He lasted two innings.
Here are Santana's Stats (Newsday Article)
2.0 In 4 H 3 R 3 ER 0 BB 1 K 1 HR
32 Pitches
23 Strikes
9 Balls
What a spectacular play by rookie sensation Fernando Martinez! Way to make a statement by making a diving sliding catch into foul territory (video)
Ruben Gotay, someone I believe should be starting in ahead of the aging Luis Castillo, brought his thunder stick as he hit a homer in the ninth. Reyes, Wright and Alou brought in some more runs earlier in the game.
With this being the first televised game, the team didn't look so bad, except I'm really bothered that we have started 0-3. I know it doesn't mean anything but I would like a victory to gain some confidence.

Later today, I will be posting about the Dodger/Met game that aired on Saturday.

I'm not much of a Mets fan but them landing Santana makes up for the Mets' stumble at the finish line last season. The man is clutch, period. If Pedro, Reyes and the rest of their big guns can stay healthy, the Mets will be dangerous in the NL East.
I like that you don't go through every little storyline and tidbit from the game and you just give the final score and what you thought was important.
I like the news ticker at the top of your blog too. It brings more legitimacy to the "Metiverse" since it's a source of Mets news and you link out to the latest Mets news from all over.
Maybe you can add a reoccurring feature to your blog, like the "play of the game" or "Met player of the Week" or "what was he thinking?" I honestly can't think of a reason why to add one, but you never know, it could be fun or something like that.
